Weddings permitted on La Manga
GETTING married on a beach in La Manga can now be easier than ever after the Ministry worked with the City of San Javier to permit legal weddings on this side of the Mar Menor.
Despite lacking a legal ceremony, demand by tourists to have a service on the beach at La Manga has grown in recent years, providing an economic boost in the low season. Already couples from the UK and the USA have proclaimed their love in La Manga demanding services from local businesses from restaurants and hotels to hair salons and florists.
San Javier Mayor, Jose Miguel Luengo said they will be responsible for authorising the ceremony in what he calls “a pioneering experience in Spain that can serve as a basis for other areas and other activities.” He made it clear that weddings are permitted on the beach but not wedding banquets.
A draft document is being drawn up to confirm the out of season period when weddings will be permitted, hours and what items can be used on the beach.
